Upcoming City Council Vacancy

The Honorable Sirena Painter has submitted her resignation from her position as Councilmember, Position #1, effective February 21, 2017. Her resignation will open a vacancy that we will need to fill. If you have an interest or know anyone who might have an interest in filling this vacancy, please complete and submit a city council and commissions positions application.

New Stop Signs

The City of Tenino is announcing additional stop signs at the corners of West 4th Avenue/ McArthur Street South and West 4th Avenue/Keithahn. As the weather warms up we are asking drivers to stay vigilant while driving through Tenino. Thanks to the hard work of the City of Tenino Public Works Department, the stop signs were put into place on February 13, 2017. We are planning to add additional stops signs in an attempt to reduce speeds within our community. We are also continuing work with WSDOT to reduce the speed limit on Sussex Avenue from McArthur Street South to Frost Street South.

If you have questions or concerns, feel free to contact the police chief or Director of Public Works Troy Cannon at City Hall at (360) 264.2368.

Please take a moment to review the new stop signs press release for additional information. Thank you all for your continued support in making our city safer.

On March 16, at the Western Farm Supply, beginning at 6:30 p.m., you can hear from a panel of local farmers talk about why they continue to farm, how they came to farming, and what they do to stay successful and profitable. There will also be a wide variety of livestock projects. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Nora White

Assistance Available for Low-income Homeowners or Renters

The City of Tenino, along with other service organizations in Thurston County, has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to provide monetary assistance with home repairs/improvement. At the most recent South Sound Housing Summit, Thurston County Commissioners "Bub" Blake and John Hutchings facilitated a meeting with representatives from a number of private, governmental, and non-governmental service providers in an effort to improve housing conditions throughout Thurston County, but with special emphasis on lower-income families, particularly in the southern portion of the County. While the majority of the service providers work at a level above the direct provision of resources, South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity has developed a pre-application interest form to help homeowners and renters to figure out whether or not federal funds are available to them in order to help defray the costs of home ownership or rental. Once you have completed the form, or if you need help completing it, please contact Mr. Andrew Oomann at (360) 956.3456, or visit the South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity website.

Help Us Design The Future Of Our City Park

Please join us at a town hall meeting on Thursday, February 23 at the Tenino High School commons so that we can obtain your ideas for our city park. Mr. Bob Droll, a professional landscape architect, is under contract with the city to help us design a more livable park. We highly value your input as we continue to improve our city's infrastructure.

Town Hall Meetings

We have scheduled two town hall meetings to specifically address code enforcement within the city. We are re-defining what a code enforcement officer is and how the city will approach the enforcement of the municipal code differently in the coming months. The first town hall meeting will occur at the Quarry House on February 17 from 1:00-2:00 p.m., and the second will also be at the Quarry House on March 10 from 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Request for Proposal

The city is soliciting proposals for a city attorney and a prosecuting attorney. We invite you to review our request for proposal.

The honorable Fred Evander has announced his decision to resign from the planning commission. His resignation will open a vacancy, which we will need to fill. If you have an interest, or know anyone who might have an interest in filling this vacancy, please visit the City Government page and select the City Council and Commissions Positions Application found under the Important Information section.
